Funeral Ministry Dinner, Tuesday, 5-14-19
Funeral ministry opportunities at Saint Matthew’s Parish Community Download this article as a PDF file: Funeral ministry of Saint Matthew When someone in our family, or a close friend, dies, the entire experience is all-encompassing. It is impossible to compartmentalize all the feelings that we have around all that is involved. Likewise for our parish community: we do not compartmentalize our compassion for the family. We are people of compassion regardless of what role we may play in our ministry to the grieving family. This is true whether we are one of the people Who takes the call … [Read more...] about Funeral Ministry Dinner, Tuesday, 5-14-19

Update on church roof replacement, 3-24-2019
One vendor of the four was preferred. Members of the finance council checked on the references. They made contact with six companies who have had roofs installed/ replaced by our preferred company. Every reference was extremely positive in all aspects of the work and the follow- ups. And I received an unsolicited recommendation of the same vendor in a conversation with a parishioner who owns a number of buildings – we talked at the Fish Fry on Friday. I will work with Fr. Banker to get the ‘proxy request’ sent in to the Archdiocese (With an expense of this size all five members of the … [Read more...] about Update on church roof replacement, 3-24-2019

Volunteers needed to take Communion to homebound after weekend masses
We need volunteers to take communion to those unable to worship with us. This “liturgical” ministry involves taking a pyx with a host immediately after a Saturday or Sunday Mass; visiting the person in their home; reading the gospel and sharing a sentence or two from the homily; praying the Lord’s Prayer together and then giving the Host to the person. After we get a few volunteers for this ministry then we will invite people to request that visit. This is different from a pastoral visit in the middle of the week with a goodly amount of conversation in the visit. If you would like more … [Read more...] about Volunteers needed to take Communion to homebound after weekend masses

Becoming a servant-leader (reflection)
January 13, 2019 – The Baptism of The Lord What a treasure trove of stewardship lessons we find in our Gospel reading today on this feast of the Baptism of the Lord. Today's Gospel is one we read every year, so it is easy to lose sight of just how incredible it is that Jesus wished to be baptized in the Jordan River by His cousin, John. We just spent the last two weeks marveling at the fact that this Savior of ours was born as a baby in a crude stable for our sake, and now this! Stop and contemplate our Lord in all His perfection waiting quietly and patiently in line with a bunch of sinners … [Read more...] about Becoming a servant-leader (reflection)

Volunteer Spotlight: Fr. Bob Kelly, OP
Today the Spotlight shines on Fr. Bob Kelly, OP. In 2016 this parish made the decision to no longer be clustered with St. Michael Parish. We indicated that we wanted to be a "Volunteer Parish". We requested from the Archdiocese a priest to celebrate the mass and sacraments. We would have a very small paid staff and everything else would be handled by volunteers. The archdiocese assigned Fr. Bob Kelly OP to be our Parochial Administrator. Fr. Bob went right to work. He saw what needed to be done in our parish and showed us how to prioritize and accomplish our goals. He is a man of action and … [Read more...] about Volunteer Spotlight: Fr. Bob Kelly, OP
