Volunteers needed to take Communion to homebound after weekend masses
Are you or a member of your family unable to attend a weekend mass? We have ministers who will bring Communion to the home. They receive a pyx with a host, at the end of the Saturday & Sunday masses. They are then sent out with the blessing of the parish community. They will visit the home of a person who is no longer able to attend mass and they will read the gospel for that weekend. They will share a sentence or two from the homily, pray the Lord's Prayer together and then give the host to the person they are visiting. This allows the parishioner to still feel a connection to the parish … [Read more...] about Volunteers needed to take Communion to homebound after weekend masses

They also vacuumed the church and chapel, and polished all pews in the chapel. Affinity Plus also donates school supplies to Community of Saints Regional Catholic School. Volunteers needed to take Communion to homebound after weekend masses
We have one volunteer to take communion to those unable to worship with us, however we need more. This “liturgical” ministry involves taking a pyx with a host from Saturday or Sunday Mass; visiting the person in their home; reading the gospel and sharing a sentence or two from the homily; praying the Lord’s Prayer together and then giving the Host to the person. Once we have a few volunteers for this ministry we will then invite people to request that visit. Last Sunday our first volunteer took communion from the 10:15 am Mass to a parishioner who is no longer able to physically come to … [Read more...] about Volunteers needed to take Communion to homebound after weekend masses
St. Matthew’s Parish Pastoral Council
We invite all parish members to consider serving on the Pastoral Council. Serving on the council is a ministry to the whole parish. There are nine members who serve a 2 year term with a maximum of 6 years. We operate by consensus. Consensus decision-making is a group decision-making process in which group members develop, and agree to support, a decision in the best interest of the whole. Council members should be willing to commit their time, talent and wisdom in a consultative and collaborative manner. Members are asked to attend monthly meetings. Typically we have ten meetings each … [Read more...] about St. Matthew’s Parish Pastoral Council

Funeral ministry opportunities at Saint Matthew’s Parish Community Download this article as a PDF file: Funeral ministry of Saint Matthew When someone in our family, or a close friend, dies, the entire experience is all-encompassing. It is impossible to compartmentalize all the feelings that we have around all that is involved. Likewise for our parish community: we do not compartmentalize our compassion for the family. We are people of compassion regardless of what role we may play in our ministry to the grieving family. This is true whether we are one of the people Who takes the call … [Read more...] about Funeral Ministry Dinner, Tuesday, 5-14-19

Volunteer Spotlight: Fr. Bob Kelly, OP
Today the Spotlight shines on Fr. Bob Kelly, OP. In 2016 this parish made the decision to no longer be clustered with St. Michael Parish. We indicated that we wanted to be a "Volunteer Parish". We requested from the Archdiocese a priest to celebrate the mass and sacraments. We would have a very small paid staff and everything else would be handled by volunteers. The archdiocese assigned Fr. Bob Kelly OP to be our Parochial Administrator. Fr. Bob went right to work. He saw what needed to be done in our parish and showed us how to prioritize and accomplish our goals. He is a man of action and … [Read more...] about Volunteer Spotlight: Fr. Bob Kelly, OP
Volunteer Spotlight: Al & Kathy Schowalter
We have many volunteers at St. Matthews who faithfully help the parish, with little recognition. Al and Kathy Schowalter are an example of that type of volunteer. Each week as parishioners arrive for the Saturday or Sunday Mass, and go to light a vigil candle, they never have to search for a candle to light. Every Saturday, 52 weeks of the year, Al and Kathy come to the church to clean the used vigil holders and place in them fresh vigil candles. They do the same every Sunday morning. Knowing that there is always an awareness of "fire safety" they will return to church late Saturday evening to … [Read more...] about Volunteer Spotlight: Al & Kathy Schowalter
Volunteer Spotlight: Joanne Smith
This month the Volunteer Spotlight shines on Joanne Smith. Joanne grew up in that "Other Twin City", Minneapolis. Her schooling was with the Benedictine sisters at St. Bridget's and the St. Joseph sisters at St. Anthony of Padua High School and many interesting characters at the University of MN, where she earned her degree in elementary education. Joanne became a member of St. Matthew's in 1969. Her family had grown with the adoption of two mixed race boys who were ready to be baptized. Personal exploration concluded that St. Matt's appeared the most open to a diverse population. Her family … [Read more...] about Volunteer Spotlight: Joanne Smith

Volunteer Spotlight: Corrine and Bill Brengman
This month the Volunteer Spotlight shines on Bill & Corinne Brengman. Corrinne has been a lifelong member of St. Matthew parish since her baptism in 1933. Corinne's mother attended St. Matthew's School. Corrine attended grade school at St. Matts and her first two years of high school. St. Matthew's School only had a 2-year high school program, so Corinne then transferred to St. Agnes High School, graduating in 1951. In 1956 Corinne and Bill Brengman were married at St. Matthew's Church. It was then that Bill became a member of St. Matthew's. They have six children, all who attended St. … [Read more...] about Volunteer Spotlight: Corrine and Bill Brengman
