First Communion Masses at St. Matthew Twenty children from the Faith Formation program and Community of Saints Catholic School will be celebrating their First Communions in May. Some children are making their First Communion at a 2 PM Mass on Saturday, May 14. Others are making their First Communion at the 10:15 AM Mass on Sunday, May 15. Another group of children are making their First Communion at the 10:15 AM Mass on Sunday, May 22. Every weekend during the 2021-2022 school year, the Church of St Matthew has learning packets available near the front door, by the hymnals, for children ages 3 to 6. The packet, a 9x12 envelope, contains a colorful pamphlet (called Seeds or Promise) related to the Sunday Gospel, a supplemental worksheet (such as a coloring page, fill-in-the-blank or matching activity, or a maze), tips for parents or guardians on teaching the week’s lesson, and basic supplies such as crayons and a pencil. The Church of St Matthew celebrated First Holy Communion with 16 children and their families at Masses on May 15 and 16. Seven of the children attended weekly Faith Formation classes for the 2020-21 school year, and ten of the children attend Community of Saints Regional Catholic School. The Church of St. Matthew celebrated the sacrament of Confirmation on Sunday, May 2. Thirteen students in the Faith Formation Program were confirmed, as were three Community of Saints Regional Catholic School students and one Visitation School student. Registrations are being taken now for the 2020-2021 St Matthew Faith Formation program and for sacramental preparation for Confirmation and First Communion. Sign up your public school students, grades K to 10, by first reading the COVID-19 precautions information and then, second, completing a fillable registration PDF form. Twelve children received First Communion on the weekend of August 1-2, 2020. We had 10 families and 12 children over the two days. Some children are students of Community of Saints Regional Catholic School and some are in our St. Matthew's Faith Formation Program. Community Brunch and Confirmation Blessing: Our Confirmation candidates were blessed during the 10:15 Mass on Sunday, March 8. All were invited to the Social Hall after the service for a free brunch (free-will offerings were accepted). Confirmation families had a meeting during the meal. Faith Formation Break: Faith Formation students do not have class on Wednesday, November 27, due to the Thanksgiving holiday. Class resumes on December 4, and students that evening should go directly to their parish center classroom at 6:30. If possible, on December 4, students should also bring a donation for our Advent giving effort, which is toward Isaac’s blessing bags. COMMUNITY DINNER AND CONFIRMATION LAUNCH Confirmation candidates were presented to the parish at 4:15 Mass on Saturday, October 24.  Afterwards, there was a potluck supper for candidates, their families and the parish. These young people will be confirmed in late March, 2020. Please remember to pray for them daily.
