FAITH FORMATION TEACHERS NEEDED The St. Matthew Faith Formation program for public school students in Grades 1 to 10 will resume September 21 and we have openings for teachers. Volunteers should enjoy helping children know, love, and serve Jesus and their neighbor, as they learn more about their Catholic faith. FAITH FORMATION UPDATES Faith Formation on March 2 will be the Ash Wednesday Mass. All students should come to church at 6:45 pm. Parents, please come to Mass on March 2 with your students so that the family sits together as a household during the service. On March 9, students have class in the Parish Center as usual, and Father Adrian will be in the chapel to hear confessions. On Wednesday, January 26, Faith Formation students in grades K-10 have in-person classes. On Wednesday, February 2, ONLY students preparing for First Reconciliation and First Communion have class; all other students do not have class that evening. On Wednesday, February 2, First Communion students will meet in church and at least one parent needs to attend with the student preparing for First Communion. Children’s Liturgy Packets at Mass
Every weekend during the 2021-2022 school year, the Church of St Matthew has learning packets available near the front door, by the hymnals, for children ages 3 to 6. The packet, a 9x12 envelope, contains a colorful pamphlet (called Seeds or Promise) related to the Sunday Gospel, a supplemental worksheet (such as a coloring page, fill-in-the-blank or matching activity, or a maze), tips for parents or guardians on teaching the week’s lesson, and basic supplies such as crayons and a pencil. Twelve children received First Communion on the weekend of August 1-2, 2020. We had 10 families and 12 children over the two days. Some children are students of Community of Saints Regional Catholic School and some are in our St. Matthew's Faith Formation Program. THE MARCH 22 CONFIRMATION HAS BEEN POSTPONED Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, Confirmations have been discontinued at the Cathedral of Saint Paul. The March 22 Confirmation location had been switched from the Cathedral to St. Matthew's, with Fr. Steve as celebrant. Community of Saints is halfway through our annual school marathon! We kicked off on October 3rd with obstacle courses that included a lot of hopping, running and throwing! Students loved it. The marathon ends on Give to the Max Day-Thursday, November 14th. Our goal this year is to raise $12,000 for flexible classroom seating and classroom STEM resources. Throughout the marathon, classes also work on service projects. The dance will take place in the Community of Saints' gymnasium on Friday, October 25th from 6:00-9:00 pm.
