PACE & PRISM (P&P)
One of my business administrator colleagues recently commented that the many abbreviations used in our work remind her of growing up as an Army brat. Apparently, our Archdiocese rivals the military in the sheer quantity of abbreviations. As you read on, be warned.
So, what’s P&P, you might ask? And you might add, don’t tell me it’s short for PACE & PRISM.
I answer: PACE stands for Protecting All Church Employees. PRISM stands for Property Responsibility in Service to Mission. These are programs offered by our insurance company, Catholic Mutual (CM). When we follow CM guidelines and document our work, we can qualify for up to 20% off our annual insurance costs.
In everyday English, PACE deals with personnel matters. Are we up to date with our employee handbook, job descriptions, and evaluations, for example? Are all staff and volunteers up to date with their CM training, as well as their Safe Environment* (VIRTUS) training?
PRISM deals with facilities matters. Where do we stand with regard to the condition of our properties? Also, are we vetting all vendors and contractors, to make sure we’re not exposing our parish to undue risk?
P&P is a continuing process, with a principal report to CM due August 1. I’ll dig into details in the next few weeks.
*I recently submitted our parish’s Safe Environment SAR. That’s the Spring Audit Report required by the Archdiocesan OPCY (Office for the Protection of Children and Youth).
