HAPPY EASTER!
Alleluia! He is risen! I wish you, your family and your friends a joyful Easter season. I want to add my thanks to Fr. Steve’s and Mary Leibl’s: We had wonderful celebrations during Holy Week and the Triduum, because people stepped up. Thank you to all who contributed their time, knowledge and skill to our many specialized ministries. It was a lot of work, done well!
Thanks as well to everyone in the assembly, the entire group of worshipers coming together. There’s a classic line from a liturgical document: “The most important ministry is the ministry of the assembly.” All of us minister to each other, by showing up to worship together. All specialized ministries are carried out by members of the assembly.
Note how this idea aligns well with what we learned from Fr. Steve’s Lenten talks about the Acts of the Apostles, as well as what Vatican II documents say about our Catholic church: everyone is important. Everyone should be listened to. Everyone should be actively engaged in worship and works of charity.
CAPITAL NEEDS
Thank you to everyone who’s already contributed to our “E-Box” effort to raise funds for replacement of our main electric panel. We’ve raised about $30K so far. Great!
Parish trustees Karen Thompson and John Del Vecchio, Finance Council rep Becky Montgomery, and I met recently with Archdiocesan Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Tom Mertens and Chief Operations Officer (COO) Bill Lentsch. They wanted to know more about our plans for replacing the electric panel and the school roof.
They were pleased to hear that we’ve already raised significant funds and we’ve also secured a Line of Credit from Catholic Finance Corporation. We were told to expect the Archbishop and Vicar General to sign our proxy request a few days after Easter. That means we can notify the contractors to start ordering parts and scheduling work.
The CFO and COO were also very interested to hear about our proposal to install solar panels on some of our flat roofs. “Wait, what?” You might say. “What is this solar proposal of which you speak?”
Our understanding is that a solar panel installation will more than pay for itself over time. In addition, there is a 30% rebate on the cost of the electric panel—if it’s bundled with a solar project. That’s thanks to last year’s Inflation Reduction Act. Research continues.
