23rd Sunday in Ordinary Time
Children’s Liturgy of the Word: Attention Parents!
In-person Children’s Liturgy of the Word (CLW) returns on Sunday, September 22!
During CLW, young children ages 3 – 8 leave the sanctuary at the start of the Liturgy of the Word to hear the scripture readings proclaimed and explained at an age-appropriate level. Father calls the children to the altar and says a short blessing over them as they are dismissed. The children return to the Mass at the time of offertory.
All Saint Matthew volunteers must meet criteria of background checks and VIRTUS (protecting Gods Children) safe environment training to work in the Children’s Liturgy of the Word and Faith Formation Programs.
Coffee Sunday
Coffee Sunday resumes on September 8, 2024. It will be held after the 10:15 AM Mass on the second Sunday of each month.
On Sunday, September 8, from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM, the Minus family invites all to breakfast in the Social Hall in remembrance of Arthur Minus. Come join the Minus family to remember Arthur and spend time with other parish members.
A free will offering for the St. Matthew Parking Lot Fundraiser is welcome. We hope to see you there!

Children’s Liturgy of the Word: Adult Volunteer Needed
We are in need of an adult volunteer to help with Children’s Liturgy of the Word. CLW takes place each Sunday during the 10:15 AM Mass. The children are taken to the chapel for a short lesson which is based around the readings for that weekend and may consist of story-telling, coloring or a similar activity. The volunteer will assist the CLW teacher and help conduct the class when needed. Training will be provided.
Call the Parish Center at 651-224-9793 if interested in this volunteer opportunity.
How to Get Your Child Baptized at St. Matthew
Baptism Preparation Meetings
Interested in having your child baptized at St. Matt’s? If so, know that we offer the required Baptism Preparation meeting on a regular basis —usually the third week of every month.
Preparation meetings are held in the church. They are a wonderful opportunity to reflect on God’s unimaginable love which we experience through the grace of baptism.
The next meetings are on:
- Tuesday, September 17 at 7:00 p.m.
- Saturday, September 21 at 10:30 a.m.
Preparation meetings are required for parents and guardians with children aged six or younger. If you have had a child baptized at St. Matt’s in the last five years, you may waive this requirement — but you’re invited to attend a meeting if you wish.
Baptism Preparation is an opportunity to connect more deeply with your own faith and relationship with God, as well as your spiritual relationship with your partner/spouse, and the people you’ve chosen as godparents. It is also a chance to build relationships with other parents of young children.
Registration is required, at least one week in advance. To register — or for more information —please contact Cristina Czaia or call the Parish Office (651-224-9793).

Prayer Requests
Due to a long list of names on our prayer list, the names are divided into groups and rotated weekly for Prayers of the Faithful. Email Angela () or call the parish office (651-224-9793) with changes to keep our list up to date.
When requesting to add a loved one’s name to our bulletin and Prayers of the Faithful, we kindly ask you obtain the individual’s permission. Thank you!
Our parish has several ways in which we can pray for others:
- We include names of those who need our prayers in our bulletin.
- We include names of those who need our prayers in the Prayers of the Faithful during Mass.
- You can include names in the Book of Intentions, found in the back of the church.
Volunteering with Loaves & Fishes
Loaves & Fishes is a nonprofit organization with a mission to serve free, healthy meals to Minnesotans where the need is greatest. Loaves & Fishes has been serving free community meals from the St. Matthew Social Hall since 2006. Currently, St. Matthew hosts one of the largest free community meals for the organization.
Volunteers work with a Site Coordinator to chop fruits/veggies, complete salads, and finish entrees during the Preparation/Package shift. Throughout the Service Shift, volunteers pass out meals and greet guests in drive-up or walk-up service. They also assist with keeping service materials organized and light cleanup.
